In 2011, the NRA refused an offer to discuss gun control with U.S. President Barack Obama. In response to the invitation, NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre said "Why should I or the N.R.A. go sit down with a group of people that have spent a lifetime trying to destroy the Second Amendment in the United States?" In his statement, LaPierre named Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder (both Democrats) as examples of the "people" he referred to.  Recently the NRA has faced heavy criticism for not discussing the role of guns in the wake of the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.  Now the NRA has finally announced it's solution to the problem:  "Maximum Security Schools".

In an unusual move, both of the leaders of the NRA, decided to appear on the "Rachael Maddow Show".  Rachael Maddow has been highly critical of the NRA ever since their press conference on December 21st.

Wayne LaPierre, the NRA's CEO:  "The NRA has a comprehensive plan to protect America's children.  Schools need to be retro-fitted with fences, walls and gun towers to protect the children.  These schools will be patterned after maximum security prisons with one very important difference:  The security measures are intended to keep people out, they are not designed to detain the students.  This will make it extremely difficult for any psycho to get into a school ever again."

Rachael Maddow:  "Wow.  That's sounds really expensive.  School budgets are already very tight.  How are we going to pay for all of that security.  Should we ask rich people to pay more taxes?"

NRA President David Keene:  "Rachael, you liberals are always looking for a reason to raise taxes.  Rich people don't even send their children to public schools.  We don't want our children exposed to that kind of Godless environment.  We send our children to private schools where they learn to pray and believe in God.  We want our children to be instilled with good Christian values.  The schools will have bake sales and other fund raisers to pay for the security."

Maddow:  "You said that rich kids who attend private schools are instilled with good Christian values.  Does that mean they grow up to become law abiding citizens who will become responsible gun owners?  What role do parents and churches have in instilling these positive values?"

Keene:   "Of course parents are the most important influence in a child's development.  It's the parents responsibility to teach them the proper values and to make sure they attend church.   When a child grows up in this kind of environment then, yes, they will they become the kind of people who will be responsible gun owners.  As responsible gun owners they will likely become members of the NRA and they can help protect children from deranged people who may try to harm them.  I'm not saying that public school children can't grow up and become responsible citizens too, it's just that the liberals have turned schools into Godless places so it's not as easy for them."

Maddow:  "Well, Mr. Keene, you seem to be an expert on how to put children on the right path to become responsible gun owners.  I assume you used this expertise as a parent.  Can you explain why your son was convicted of shooting at a motorist during a road rage incident?"

Keene stands up and screams:  "This is so typical of the lame-stream media.  My family is off limits.  I didn't come here to talk about my son."  Keene exits stage right.

Maddow:  "So, Mr. LaPierre, do you wish to continue with the discussion?"

LaPierre:  "I'll be glad to stay, but I won't discuss David Keene's son either."

Maddow:  "Fair enough.  Let's talk about gun control."

LaPierre:  "More gun control laws won't make children any safer.  Why don't we talk about school security, mental health and the necessary cultural changes like controlling video games and violence in moves and on TV.  If we lock up the crazies and ban violent video games, movies and TV shows, maybe we won't have psychos shooting school children."

Maddow:  "Those video games are played all over the world.  Our movies and TV shows have been translated into every language and are also viewed world wide.   So why do most of these mass shootings happen in the U.S.?"

LaPierre:  "The worst mass shooting was in Norway."

Maddow:  "That was a horrible incident, but it's the only time that's ever happened there.  We have seen many more mass shootings right here.  What did you mean before when you said 'lock up the crazies'?  After the Virginia Tech shootings, the NRA lobbied extensively to minimize permanent mental illness restrictions against gun ownership for patients with temporary medical conditions such as depression.  And the NRA advocated judicial review of medical conditions of patients rather than simply imposing permanent prohibitions of gun ownership."

LaPierre:  "Well, everyone needs a mental health evaluation.  Then we lock up the dangerous ones.  People with less serious conditions that are treatable should be permitted to own guns when they're healthy."

Maddow:  "Okay.  Are we going to have bakes sales to cover the cost of that too?  And I really don't think we can identify all of the people who may snap and start shooting.  And banning violent video games and movies would violate free speech rights.  Don't you support the First Amendment?"

LaPierre:  "Rachael, I'm sure you are well aware that the NRA is the oldest civil rights group in the country.  We have even had Presidents who were members of the NRA.  We advocate all constitutional rights including the First Amendment.  But we believe that the Second Amendment is the key to protecting all of those other constitutional rights.  By keeping the citizens armed we can protect ourselves from outside forces infringing on our right to free speech."

Maddow:  "George HW Bush resigned his lifetime NRA membership  in 1995 in the wake of the Oklahoma City bombing, after you referred to federal law enforcement agents as "jack-booted thugs" and compared them to the Nazis.  And you claim that there are outside forces that are threatening our right to free speech.  What are the outside forces?"

LaPierre:  "Well, for example, the United Nations has an anti-blasphemy resolution that would make it illegal worldwide to say anything bad about Islam.  Many Islamic countries already have these laws and we don't want them here.  And, the United Nations also has their own gun control laws, that they want to impose on us.  We can't sacrifice our sovereignty and let the UN take control of our country.  As long as our citizens are armed, we don't have to worry about those blue helmeted UN soldiers taking our rights away from us.  When they come for our guns, we'll give them our bullets instead."

Maddow:  "Well, I haven't seen any signs of the blue helmets coming for us.  And no matter what resolutions the UN may pass, we are protected by the Constitution and we have our own military to protect us from any outside threat.  The UN cannot infringe on Americans Constitutional rights.  And it's you that have suggested banning video games and violent movies and TV shows.  You are proposing to restrict free speech which is unconstitutional, yet you claim you want to protect constitutional rights.  Why do I get the feeling that the only rights you actually care about are Second Amendment rights?"

LaPierre:  "That's not true at all Rachael.  I strongly support freedom of religion and our proposal to protect schools includes parochial schools.  We think they should be maximum security schools too.  We have begun an extensive training program for teachers including nuns.  We're trying to convince pastors, priests, ministers and rabbis to carry concealed to protect their parishioners.  Church deacons and even altar boys should carry concealed weapons."

Maddow:  "Wait, did you say altar boys should carry weapons?"

LaPierre:  "Of course.  And as a part of the "Maximum Security Schools" program we intend to arm the students along with the teachers.  We also advocate that students wear school uniforms that will be available through the NRA.  These uniforms are made with Kevlar to protect the children from gunshot wounds."

Maddow:  "You actually want to arm students?  You want the kids to carry firearms?"

LaPierre:  "That's right Rachael.  The youngest kids, K-3, would only be armed with air rifles.  They light weight, easy to carry but can still tear up a psycho.  These air guns look just like assault rifles but shoot BB's instead of bullets.  But they can fire 200 BB's in about 90 seconds.  Let's say there are 30 students in a class. That means they can shoot a madman up to six thousand times in less that two minutes.  And of course the teachers will also be armed with real assault weapons.  Kids in 4th, 5th and 6th grades would carry .22 caliber rim fire assault rifles with 30 round clips.  And the older kids would carry .223 Bushmasters or equivalent weapons.  Law enforcement experts would be available to every school to teach the kids gun safety.  There are already about a half a million school age children who are members of the NRA and shoot on a regular basis."

DEA teaching gun safety in a school:

Maddow:  "Let me guess.  I bet the NRA will supply the guns and ammo to the children.  It sounds like the NRA is creating a huge market to sell body armor, guns and ammunition to school children."

LaPierre:  "We are in a position to save the schools and the children a lot of money.  We obtain the weapons, ammunition and body armor at a huge discount because we buy in very high volume.  We will pass that savings along to the schools and students.  So it's a win-win.  We will even use celebrities and professional athletes to make public service announcements and teach gun safety to the children.  The kids will love having guns."

Plaxico Burress, star NFL player, on Gun Safety:

Maddow:  "You are probably dead right, Mr LaPierre.  But, we're out of time.  Maybe you can visit the show again when you're back on your medication.  I really appreciate your insanity.  Your "Maximum Security Schools" program is not only crazy but fiscally irresponsible.  If your program is implemented there will be no money to pay teachers, buy books, fuel the buses or feed the kids lunch.  It's obvious that you are out to lunch.  And if every kid in every school is carrying a weapon there will be daily firearms accidents that will kill more children than the mass murders ever have."
