A famous republican philosopher, Paul Ryan recently said:
"Teach a man how to fish, he can feed himself for life. Don't simply feed fish."
What Ryan means is "don't feed hungry people".
No one should go hungry in America. Currently the USDA Food and Nutrition Service provides children and low-income people access to food, a healthful diet, and nutrition education. FNS helps nearly one in four people.
Ryan has plans to introduce a bill during the upcoming "lame duck" session. Money designated for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Women, Infants and Children (WIC), School Meals, and for food stamps and will be diverted to purchase fishing equipment (manufactured by Halliburton) which will be distributed to hungry people. Ryan claims that poor people will be given the opportunity to participate in the sport of fishing and enjoy free gourmet seafood in their tents. He adds that since it also amounts to a big budget cut it's a "three-fer" a "win-win-win".
Rachael Maddow pointed out that popular areas could be over-fished and starvation could result. Ryan said that Halliburton will be contracted to restock certain popular fishing areas. Maddow asked: "Congressman Ryan, are you saying that all government funding for food programs will be going to Halliburton from now on?"
Paul Ryan responded by saying, "Rachael, we plan on teaching people to "noodle" for catfish. We won't have to buy too much fishing equipment. I'm just trying to send poor people to camps. Oops, I mean fishing camps. It'll be like a nice long camping vacation. Let them eat fish."
Maddow: "Just a wild guess, the tents and "camps" are coming from Halliburton too? How much is budgeted for fences and barb-wire?"
